It took several years but Emily at long last made up her mind that she had it with her husband’s hazardous and excessive drinking. She was sick of seeing Barry come home after midnight from drinking rather than spending much needed time with her and their three daughters. She was also sick and tired of the second DWI Barry recently received. In addition she was weary from generating excuses for her husband when he couldn’t make it to work due to his problems with drinking. In a similar manner she was anxious about the fact that their relationship was crumbling due to Barry’s negative drinking. And lastly she was sick of the perilous financial quandary into which he had put his family due to his hazardous and careless drinking behavior.

When Excessive and Hazardous Drinking Inspires a Person to do Something Beneficial About an Individual’s Drinking Problem

One Friday afternoon when Emily was reflecting on what she could do about her husband’s negative drinking, she got to the point that she frankly had to do something to cut into the negative cycle of Barry’s unhealthy and abusive drinking behavior.

So she looked on the Internet under “alcohol rehab” and located numerous rehabilitation facilities that were all located less than thirty miles away from where she and Barry lived.

Since she didn’t know much about these rehabilitation facilities, she eventually decided that she needed to call some of them and ask some important questions. When she called each treatment facility she introduced herself and articulated that Barry, her spouse, was exhibiting hazardous and abusive drinking behavior. She also said that her spouse had a quality health insurance program at his place of employment and that residential or outpatient alcohol treatment would be covered if a physician in the company health network suggested the rehabilitation.

At one treatment facility, Emily was shocked that she was able to talk directly with a psychologist who suggested that she come to the treatment center to describe her husband’s abusive and excessive drinking behavior in much more detail.

When Emily got to the treatment center, she filled out some required forms and then after around ten or fifteen minutes got to see a healthcare practitioner.

After listening to Emily go over her husband’s excessive and unhealthy drinking, the counselor in a helpful but resolute manner explained to Emily how she more likely than not contributed to her spouse’s excessive and hazardous drinking through the months and the years by justifying his behavior rather than letting him go through the outcomes of his abusive and careless drinking behavior.

Emily Learns That She Has Been Enabling Her Husband’s Excessive Drinking

Stated more precisely, the counselor told Emily that she may have been accidentally enabling Barry’s excessive and hazardous drinking behavior. The physician also emphasized the fact that even though Emily would not be able to control her husband’s actions, with the support and encouragement of the rehab team at the rehab clinic she would not only be able to learn how to abstain from contributing to Barry’s hazardous and careless drinking but she could also learn how to motivate him to make an appointment at the treatment center so that he could discuss his excessive and hazardous drinking behavior with a physician.

The good news was that after Emily explained this to Barry, and he saw that she meant business, Barry told her that he had been extremely upset with his abusive drinking behavior and that he was very pleased to discover that Emily wanted to do something positive about his harmful drinking behavior. Consequently, he made an appointment to see a doctor at the local alcohol rehabilitation center.

Barry Agrees to See a Counselor About His Excessive Drinking

While simply calling a rehab program does not mean that a person’s hazardous and abusive drinking behavior will stop or that one’s warning signs of alcoholism or the alcohol abuse signs one exhibits will simply vanish, making an appointment is undeniably a vital aspect in the rehab process. And since Barry was serious about getting quality help for his unhealthy and excessive drinking, the probability for a successful recovery was substantially enhanced.
